Federal skilled worker (express entry)

The federal skilled workers’ program is for skilled workers holding foreign work experience and are willing to immigrate to Canada immediately.

Note: this program has multiple requirements.

How does this program work?

The minimum requirements for this program are:


Skilled work experience

By skilled work experience, we expect a candidate to have prior working experience with any one of the national occupational classification (NOC) job group:
i) Managerial jobs (skill type 0)
ii) Professional jobs (skill type A)
iii) Technical jobs and skilled trades (skill type B)


Language Criteria

Candidate must pass an approved test of English or French for:
i) writing
ii) reading
iii) listening
iv) speaking

Note: it is mandatory to have a minimum score in correspondence with Canadian language benchmark (CLB) 7 in all the 4 abilities. This score is supposed to be inserted in your express entry profile and serves as a valuable key point supporting your profile.

It is necessary to check the validity of your test when applying for a visa or permanent residency. The score remains valid for two years from the day the result is announced.



There is a different criteria for Canadian and foreign students.

For Canadian students:

The minimum requirement is for a certificate, diploma, or a degree from any:
Canadian secondary intuition (high school) OR post-secondary institution.

For foreign students:

i) Complete educational credentials
ii) Educational credential assessment (ECA) for immigration purposes from a recognized institution evaluating the equality of your educational level to any Canadian certification, degree, or diploma from secondary or post-secondary institution.


Application selection assessment

If the candidate succeeds to fill up the minimum requirements of the program, further application selection is done on the basis of the following factors:
• Age
• Education
• Prior work experience
• Job offer validity
• No language barrier ( English or French language skills)
• Capability to adapt
All of these factors are evaluated on a scale of 100 Points. The minimum passing ratio is for 67 points. Your score depends on how well you perform under each criteria.


Use of selected application

Your selected application is put in the pool of thousands of applications along with your score. Candidates are then shortlisted according to the highest ranking. They are then invited for an interview.
